“Will you please stand.” How much do we love hearing those words at the beginning of a wedding ceremony?
Today, the warriors at @lovemydress and @whataboutweddingsofficial are asking everyone to support the wedding industry by sharing this tile and your experiences all across social media.
Since last March, the £14bn wedding industry has been effectively shut down by the government without a roadmap, an action plan or any discernible logic as to when weddings may be able to resume. If you think this is just a 2020 problem, sadly this will be an issue for everyone marrying in 2021 and beyond. I’ve had couples try to marry 2, 3, even 4 times. Couples rearranging their date and all their suppliers 3 or 4 times. Suppliers, like me, watching their savings drain down to practically zero over the course of last year only to be hit with another wave of postponements now, due to the continued uncertainty and anxiety. Confidence is understandably waning as we struggle to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Wedding suppliers continue to put on a brave face for couples as we share your anxiety.
So far, the government has declined to engage with the wedding industry about how we will be able to move forward in 2021, now there are vaccines and rapid testing available; perhaps if we weren’t a female-led industry that’s (unfairly) perceived to be a bit of a luxury, we would be taken more seriously. Now is the time to stand up for the wedding industry, to be heard, by doing everything we can to get back the fundamental human right of marriage. Get in touch with your MP, share your experiences across Insta, Twitter and Facebook using the hashtags, and support all of your friends and suppliers across the industry.

2020, you have been, for the majority of the year,

2020, you have been, for the majority of the year, an absolute shitbag. I know many of you are looking forward to seeing the back of this atrocious year, and I’m with you. Aside from the amazing news that Matt and I created a tiny human which I continue to incubate, it’s been a very difficult year for us, both being self-employed. We’ve lived mainly off our savings and a few quid of government loans/grants, with both our industries grinding to a halt. Over the year my heart has broken for every couple who anxiously waited to see if their dream wedding day would go ahead or if they’d need to reschedule, and several of those couples tried several times just to exchange vows in 2020. Who knows what 2021 will look like, I don’t think any of us could have predicted what the last 7/8 months were like, but we carry on.
Huge thanks to everyone who has and continues to support me and my business, whether it’s pep talks and supportive Skypes from my photography peers, couples offering to pay portions of their balances ahead of time to help me with cashflow, or just engaging with and sharing my social media posts (because, y’know, that doesn’t cost anything). Have a great new year eating cheese in your pyjamas, and I’ll see you on the other side ✊🏼
