Mikaela + Steve | Down Hall Wedding

Where do I even start with Mikaela and Steve’s beautiful, emotional, incredible wedding day at Down Hall back in July? I’m not exaggerating when I say this wedding had everything, not least a Bullseye-inspired best men gameshow/speech – but more on that later!

I was so pleased when Mikaela and Steve asked me to photograph their wedding which they’d planned for July this year, as I’d worked with Mikaela previously and I just knew it was going to be an epic occasion, and I wanted in! They’d very sweetly booked their wedding day to coincide with the anniversary date Steve had proposed, which also coincided with the anniversary of their first date. These guys don’t do things by halves 🙂

We’d done their engagement shoot the year previous, and you can view their pre-wedding photos HERE

It was a gorgeously sunny, warm summer’s day at Down Hall, which is a country house venue situated in Hatfield Heath in Essex, and one I’ve been to several times. In the morning I photographed the girls getting ready, whilst my second shooter Emma captured the boys, both with plenty going on as there were gifts, cards and tears galore. It was hard not to feel emosh seeing Mikaela’s dad Martin tear up at his card and gift, and you guys know me – I love it when people cry on wedding days!!

Once the ceremony was done, the majority of the day was spent outside as it was so gloriously warm and sunny, giving us loads of great opportunities for photos but also to enjoy seeing everyone explore Down Hall’s grounds and have fun with some outdoor games. When we headed inside, we were treated to certainly the most epic of best men speeches I’ve seen this year: Steve’s two best men providing a Bullseye style gameshow, where tables competed against one another by answering questions on the groom himself. Accompanied by a ream of hella-embarrassing photos, videos and facts about Steve (not least his interesting back catalogue of hairstyles), the reception was rocking as the best men entertained everyone at Steve’s expense! As you’d expect it was all done in good humour and it set the evening up perfectly. My personal fave was when Steve was challenged to maintain a weight lift (with bagels strapped to the weights) in front of all of his guests – you can see below how that turned out! (I think it was about a minute wasn’t it, Steve?)

On the moving images front, I was joined by Alice of Alice Underwood Films, and you can check out the video here: Mikaela + Steve’s Down Hall wedding

I had so much fun with these guys on their day, it really was one worth waiting for, and  I know Mikaela and Steve feel exactly the same as me in saying, can we do it all again?
